Dedicated to the memory of our dear Eva

Evamaie Elizabeth Olsen, 90, passed into the arms of Jesus on November 14, 2016, in Ocala, FL.

She was born in Quincy, MA on December 28, 1925 to Simeon C. and Eva M. Hedman (Anderson) and was the youngest of five children. As the story goes, she was originally to be named Maie, however, her brother Eben said he would not love her if she wasn’t named Eva like their mother, so Evamaie she was!

Evamaie (Eva or Eve for short) graduated from Quincy High School and attended Gordon College briefly. She also attended Providence Bible College in Rhode Island, and taught elementary school, grades 1-3. She admitted that she was a tough teacher and even at 90 years of age was quick to correct grammatical errors (when asking a question, “can I”refers to ability whereas “may I” refers to permission).

Anyone who ever knew or met Eva was quickly taken by her playful personality, quick wit and signature wink. She was one spunky lady!

Eva first met Roy Olsen (a Norwegian) at the car dealership where her brother John worked. John’s younger friend inquired, “Who is that stuck up lady and how can I meet her?” so John introduced the two. In 1951 Eva married Roy, the love of her life, at Central Baptist Church in Quincy, MA and they made their first home with Nana Hedman, Eva’s mother from Sweden. Years later, Nana would come to live with Roy and Eva in Florida.

Eva worked at Granite City Electric Supply and Blue Hill Cemetery in MA and later as an administrative assistant and executive secretary to the president of a number of banking institutions in the Clearwater and Tampa Bay area. Eva and Roy’s last job before full retirement was working together in security at the Port Authority in Tampa.

Although Eva and Roy were not blessed with their own children, they were the most wonderful aunt and uncle to their nieces and nephews. They could spoil kids like none other! Eva enjoyed traveling with her husband to visit family, playing the organ, working puzzles and games, especially Uno and Skip-Bo. Eva would always send a special card to family and friends on the occasion of a birthday, anniversary or holiday.

Eva was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Roy Olsen, her brothers Eben Hedman, Wendell Hedman and John Hedman, and her sister Ruth Brown. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Kenneth Brown, Santa Clarita, CA; Donald Hedman, Titusville, FL; Jonathan Hedman, Gray, ME; Ruth Tucker, Lake Stevens, WA; David Hedman, Lompoc, CA; Eben Hedman, Burlington, WA; Robert Brown, Marshfield, WY; Kevin Brown, Aloha, OR; Karen St.Clair, New Boston, NH; Roy Brown, Lander, WY.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Munroe Regional Hospital and Timber Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their care and kindness toward Eva and her family. Final arrangements by Crevasse’s of Ocala, FL.

Eva loved the Lord with all her heart and was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Ocala. A memorial service will be held at the church at 642 NE 20th Street on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at 3:00 pm.
